Norman Thomas, an early leader in the American socialist movement promoted the concept that Americans would never knowingly adopt socialism but, under the name of liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened!
Dear Laptop American,
Seven times he preached in the Colonies, to crowds up to 25,000, spreading the Great Awakening Revival which helped unite the colonies prior to the Revolution.
Ben Franklin wrote in his Autobiography:
"He preached one evening from the top of the Court-house steps...Streets were filled with his hearers...I had the curiosity to learn how far he could be heard by retiring backwards down the street...and found his voice distinct till I came near Front-street."
Who was Franklin describing but George Whitefield, who died this day, September 30, 1770.
Franklin wrote: "Multitudes of all denominations attended his sermons...It was wonderful to see."
Printing his sermons, Franklin financed the largest building in Philadelphia for his meetings, which later became the first building of the University of Pennsylvania.
Franklin wrote to Whitefield: "I sometimes wish you and I were jointly employed by the Crown to settle a colony on the Ohio...a strong body of religious and industrious people!...
Might it not greatly facilitate the introduction of pure religion among the heathen, if we could, by such a colony, show them a better sample of Christians than they commonly see in our Indian traders?"

Federal Census Survey Insulting says Congressman:
U.S. Constitution only allows for counting!
As Congressman Ron Paul observes, questions on the American Community Survey are "both ludicrous and insulting," and this information is simply none of the government's business. I fervently hope that millions of Americans will burn their forms or accidentally lose them.
An incredibly intrusive new census form called "The American Community Survey" has been mailed to up to 1 million households per year. This new "census" form is 24-pages long, and demands that you lay bare every detail of your life, including how much you earn, what your home is worth, details of your health, when you leave for work, previous addresses, pregnancies, monies received from government, and on and on.
We thought that was what Social Security Numbers were for; you know, tracking your wages, your bank accounts, your children, your spouse, your employees, your dog, insurance, drivers license's, investments, professional licenses, etc.
Article I of the Constitution allows the government to conduct a count ONLY of the American people once every ten years to determine voting districts. Nothing in the Constitution gives government the power to continuously spy on the people or probe every intimate detail of their lives.
The Census Bureau website states: Today, in addition to taking a census of the population every 10 years, the Census Bureau conducts censuses of economic activity and state and local governments every five years. And every year, the Census Bureau conducts more than 100 other surveys.
How does this constitutionally delegated power to count people turn into an economic and social survey?
How could this information collected by the government be used?
The ways the government could use this information to harm you are mind-boggling. For instance, any financial discrepancy with IRS or Social Security records could result in your criminal prosecution. Knowing when you leave for work could enable police, acting under the Patriot Act, to secretly enter your home.
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. - George Washington
The American Community Survey also demands that you to report on the activities of relatives, employers and roommates. Joseph Stalin could hardly ask for more surveillance powers.
We love the fact that someone would take the time and trouble to count everyone in this country so that we can have an accurate count of citizens so that our Congress will be correctly seated per the rules of House seats. However, we are not at all happy that government is now asking for personal detail information that is quite frankly none of their business. If private businesses want to get into the business of collection data and selling it to customers interested in this information, we applaud their ingenuity and entrepreneurship.
The forms state that you can be "fined up to $1,000" for each of the 72 questions you don't answer or which you answer "incorrectly." However, so far no one has been fined for not answering, nor are they likely to be, if public resistance is strong.
Page 10 starts by saying: Survey information helps your community get financial assistance for roads, hospitals, schools, and more.
Financial assistance from whom? Doesn't all financial assistance come from taxpayers? Why is the federal government involved in local funding of local community issues? Isn't this why we have local, state and county governments?

The NEA hates and fears the home schooling movement precisely because home schooling offers true academic freedom. That is, freedom that says you can at least debate whether the human race came from the mud or was created. The NEA cannot get its clutches into moms and dads who home school or send their children to privately funded schools.
