Monday brought to all of us the empirical evidence that America as we know it may well be gone forever. In its place is a mini-Europe which, of course, we once left behind. We traditional Americans (who are usually in the GOP because of our principles and our belief in the Constitution, but are usually labeled by a leftist press as intolerant or racist or exclusive) have been raising our voices for the past 20 years that if we don’t get control of our immigration problems, this country would see terrible problems. We were also the ones who knew how desperately important having ONE LANGUAGE is to a country. But again, those who demanded that English be the only language spoken were accused by liberals and leftists (especially the National Education Association, whose other disastrous policies are now shown to be failures) as being “anti-inclusive”. In the name of “multiculturalism” we have DIVIDED this nation into little groups of different languages. As history has proven, this always brings about division, strife and even wars. It encourages people to not feel a part of a whole, but actually separate from the whole. At the moment that it became popular by media, the education establishment, PAC groups, etc. to hyphenate one’s ethnic background with the word “American,” the UNITED in the United States of America lost its meaning. One only has to look at Canada, where French-speaking Quebec has become separate, and all the other European nations who have spent generations raging and warring and hating each other. Our country – that beautiful experiment that was so successful that peoples from every nation on earth wanted to leave their own home and be a part of it – is now becoming a shadow of the European model. Ethnic, language, religious, and cultural DIFFERENCES are being emphasized under the guise of “multiculturalism” and “tolerance.” We all respected our forefathers’ backgrounds; but once we became citizens of America, we became Americans. There are more and more people in this country who are promoting differences, instead of looking at UNITY as being the great and perfect definition of “tolerance.” We are seeing the results now. When LAWBREAKERS are being given respect and encouragement, when another country’s flag is being flown above our own, when our politicians lost all their courage and principles to keep their political careers, all we can do is remember that those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it. Abraham Lincoln, a melancholy man, must be crying out from the grave. His famous observation, “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” has become a terrible truth. I am sad today.
