Clews Views: A Day Without Americans
By Chris Clews, May 10, 2006
So, I’m in LA last week and right in the middle of the largest “fiesta” in years. Mexican flags are a flying – green, yellow and red from “sea to shining sea” or “Mar al mar brillante”, depending on how you think it should be said here in the good ‘ol USA. As I scan the crowd, I see signs like, “A Day without Immigrants”, “Boycott the Gringos” and of course the obligatory protest sign that goes with every lefty gathering, “Bush is Hitler”. Then I saw one that got me thinking real hard – and that is always trouble for the liberals. It simply said, “You need us more than we need you”. Hmmmm…Interesting thought – “You need us more than we need you” – ok, I’ll give it a whirl. Let’s try it – how about we do our own counter protest just to see who really needs whom the most.
How about “A Day without Americans”. Pretty simple actually – one day without Americans and everything we provide to our illegal amigos. Since you picked a symbolic day – May 1st a communist workers holiday (bet most of our lovely protestors knew that one), I’ll choose, ummmm, July 4th – Independence Day. One day of Independence from paying for your social services, your healthcare and your ridiculous protests against obeying the law and for breaking it.
Here’s how it works – these are the things that you won’t have for a day from those horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres:
Healthcare – no free tax payer check-ups at the emergency room on those nasty sore throats and colds today. If you want healthcare, you’ll have to set up an appointment at a doctor, wait 3 weeks and pay for it just like the rest of us horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres do everyday.
Welfare – Oh no! That weekly welfare check is going to be a little light this week – might have to downgrade the Premium Direct TV package for a little bit and settle for that 60” big screen instead of the 65” that you had your eye on using the horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres tax money.
Education – this one actually hurts me a lot because I’d never advocate taking anything away from a child but if we are going to have A Day without Americans, then no school for the ninos and ninas. Guess that means no lunch today since they are probably using vouchers paid for by those horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres.
Food – Yes, Food. Now we know that you are taking the low-paying agriculture jobs that Americans won’t take but who do you think owns those farms that your food comes from? That’s right, those horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres and today, “its no soup for you”!
Work – We know how you love to work – you tell us how hard working you are every time you take the day off to protest the horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres. Today, we are giving you the day off – the difference is we aren’t going to celebrate it and we aren’t going to pay you. Maybe your job will be here tomorrow, maybe it won’t. Guess you’ll have to thank those horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres for your job.
Emergency Protection – Have a house fire? Need the Police? Sorry, gonna have to deal with it yourself. No emergency services today – have a blast fending for yourself. Those horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres don’t feel like paying for your 911 calls today.
Electricity – Oh wow…didn’t think about that. Those horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres own my electricity too? Yup, so stock up on those candles and flashlights – don’t forget the batteries. Man, no DirectTV? And right during the semifinals of The World Cup. Sorry Pele, those horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres are at it again.
Well, the list could go on and on, but you probably get the point. Look, I realize that there is a better life here in the USA than in most countries and I count my lucky stars every day. This is an amazing country with amazing opportunity and I have the utmost respect for people who leave their families behind and immigrate LEGALLY to seek out a better life for future generations by working hard and saving harder. THAT, is what this country is built on, not having the audacity to protest the laws of another country that you are in illegally, marching for rights that you don’t deserve. Go to work! Protest on a Saturday – let’s see how many people turn out. My guess is about five and none of them will be school children – protests aren’t any fun unless you get the day off!
Having said that, if you are going to light the fire, you better make sure that someone can’t stoke the flames and burn down the campsite. I’m tired of hearing that we need you – we did fine without you. If I remember my history lessons correctly, I think we invented flight, electricity, the modern automobile, computers – oh yeah, and we walked on the moon! All without the hard working, law abiding illegal aliens protesting our laws in our streets in our cities. Yeah, when push comes to shove, I think those horribly oppressive Gringo Ogres we’ll be just fine without you.
