Dear Rep. [House Member's Name Here]:

I am writing to you today to ask that you join the House Republicans in leaving a legacy of mercy.

As you know, Congressman Chris Smith's "Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act of 2006" (HR 6099) will be likely be coming to the floor for a vote within the next several days. While this bill will not end the scourge of abortion in our land, it will at least ease the pain of those who, betrayed at the hands of man, will now find peace and joy in the arms of God.

There is little doubt left that unborn babies who fall prey to abortionists - particularly after 20 weeks or more of life in their mothers' wombs - endure severe and excruciating pain. As Dr. Sunny Anand, Director of the Pain Neurology Laboratory at Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute, recently testified:

"The human fetus possesses the ability to experience pain from 20 weeks of gestation, if not earlier, and the pain perceived by the fetus is possibly more intense than that perceived by term newborns or older children …

"The highest density of pain receptors per square inch of skin in human development occurs in utero from 20 to 30 weeks gestation. During this period, the epidermis is still very thin, leaving nerve fibers closer to the surface of the skin than in older neonates and adults."

You now have in your hands the power to take a major step towards helping to end the horrible suffering now endured by unborn babies who daily are being torn from limb to limb, scalded in acidic solutions, and crushed in the vice-like grips of the killer's forceps - all without even the mildest anesthetic.

In our country today, even barnyard animals led to the slaughter are treated more mercifully. As are convicted murderers. Won't you please stand up for those who cannot speak up for themselves?

Please advise me as to how you will vote on this crucial bill. If you are not yet able to give the unborn the gift of life, at least allow them to die in peace.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
